Hey there — I’m Mary Sarah.
I’m the quilter, maker, pattern-loving creative behind Stitch the Ditch. This is a quilting space built for people who love fabric, color, texture, and the slightly ridiculous joy of saying, “I can totally make that.”
Around here, quilting does not have to be stiff, intimidating, or wrapped in twelve layers of perfectionism. I believe quilting should feel creative, doable, beautiful, and just a little bit rebellious.
Whether you are brand new to quilting, coming back after a long break, or already knee-deep in rulers, scraps, thread, and “just one more block,” you are in the right place.

What Stitch the Ditch Is All About
Stitch the Ditch is where quilting gets practical, personal, and full of personality.
Here, you will find quilt patterns, tutorials, inspiration, project ideas, and honest encouragement for making quilts you actually want to finish. I love traditional techniques, but I am not afraid to remix them, simplify them, or give them a little extra attitude.
My focus is on helping quilters feel confident at the machine….especially domestic machine quilters who want to learn free motion quilting, ruler work, clean piecing, and practical finishing methods without feeling like they need a professional studio, a magic wand, or a second mortgage.
Because let’s be real: quilting should be joyful, not a hostage situation.

My Quilting Philosophy
I believe quilts tell stories.
Some are made for babies. Some are made for birthdays. Some are made because the fabric was too pretty to leave at the store and we simply had no choice. Court dismissed.
I love quilts that feel layered, meaningful, colorful, and a little unexpected. I believe in using the fabric you love, trying new techniques, and not letting fear boss you around.
Perfect points are lovely. Finished quilts are better.

10 Things About Me
- I am creative, opinionated, I say slightly but some others will say 100% unfiltered, and usually juggling more ideas than any one person should legally be allowed to have.
- My husband is Paul, and he has learned to live with the fact that my creative projects occasionally take over the entire house. Marriage is a compromise, y’all.
- We have two cats, Gracie and Checkers, who are absolutely convinced they run the house. Honestly, they may be right.
- I believe coffee, sarcasm, and a good playlist can fix a surprising number of problems.
- I love music that gets me moving — 90s throwbacks, Taylor Swift, Journey, Billy Idol, Metallica, Creed, Blink-182, P!nk, Nelly, and early 2000s R&B/hip hop all have a seat at the table.
- I’m a Scentsy Consultant with my business, Legally Scented, so fragrance is a big part of my everyday life. My house is probably going to smell good. That’s not negotiable.
- Mary Sarah Unfiltered is my bigger creative umbrella — the place where all my ideas, businesses, opinions, and “wait, what if we tried this?” moments live.
- I’m the kind of person who gets excited about building something from scratch…. a business, a brand, a room, a project, a plan, all of it.
- I like things with personality. Beige-for-the-sake-of-beige is not my ministry.
- I believe life is too short to be boring, too precious to waste pretending, and too full of possibilities to sit around waiting for permission.
